Juicer, Blender and Food Processor and my plan to eat
more veggies.
I am not big
on all the cleaning, paring, cutting and preparation
that goes into getting fresh veggies ready to cook.
Of course then you have to actually cook them. Feh!
Except I'm acutely aware that I really need to put
more vegetables in my diet. So when
Aaron mentioned a juicer
and big
light bulb went off in my little brain. I mean,
what could be healthier than veggies reduced to a
liquid state? Aaron mentioned a good juicer model
that costs about $200. The only thing is that type
of juicer is pretty much a single purpose machine.
As I investigated juicers more I thought it might
be worthwhile looking into something that could do
more than just juice.
This is where brand marketing comes in: see back in the late 1960's and early 1970's I kept seeing TV commercials and magazine ads for the Vita-Mix machine. This is sort of a super heavy duty blender, grinder machine that can reduce whole fruits and vegetables instead of just squeezing out juice it also liquifies the pulp too. That just seems healthier to me. Anyway, all those ads on TV when I was a kid combined with full page ads in magazines like Popular Mechanics actually paid off 35 years later because I remembered the Vita-Mix name and a quick search brought me to their website.
Bottom line, they are not cheap but I ended up buying a refurbished model and I'm waiting for it to be delivered. This means I am going to have to make a serious commitment to using it. More when I get it up and running.

A Brace of Bob Massa Interviews

Two new interviews of Searchking founder Bob Massa:
Bob Massa Interview by UKGimp (who has a real talent for interviews).
Bob Massa - An Interview by John Scott.
Source: Threadwatch
Both interviews are very good but this part caught my eye in the interview with UKGimp where Bob talks about relaunching the Searchking network of search portals:
In some ways I still think Bob had a good idea with a search portal network after all the idea is not that far away from the weblog networks of today. But any directory network needs to have an income and revenue sharing component built in and that revenue needs to come from more than just pay for review fees - it needs a solid targeted advertising model too.

We are only days away from launching the network again including hosted portals and free portals. I still believe there is value in providing individuals and companies with the tools to build informational resources for a topic specific market. All they need is the tools and the support.

Restraining Myself from Trying Linux ... for Now.

All this talk over the last week,
about Google's in-house version of desktop
Linux, got me to investigate Ubuntu Linux upon which it is
based. I have to say I am impressed. I was even
more impressed when I found a couple of companies selling computers
with Ubuntu already installed. Some of those
systems are in the under $900 range and I have
to say I'm very tempted.
Even though I'm very happy with my Mac's I have always wanted to play around with Linux just to see what it is like. Up until recently Linux did not sound very user friendly. In fact, part of the reason I went with a Mac was I didn't want another OS that was in my face. Anyway Ubuntu looks like it is fairly user friendly and the computers are pretty reasonable in price, but I do think I will hold off. I have a new desktop and a decent laptop so I really don't need a new computer yet. What I would like is some sort of light weight tablet or super PDA. My inner geek is screaming at me to buy a linux machine, but I'm going to show admirable restraint.
Drat.
